DORMITORIES AND THEIR CAPACITIES

Directorates of Adana Fevzı Çakmak (Adana),Hacı Sabancı (Adana), Ceyhan (Adana), Mevlana (Konya), Selçuk (Konya), Alaaddin (Konya), Çumra (Konya), Niğde, Mersin, Nevşehir, Gaziantep, Hatay, İskenderun, Kilis, Osmaniye, Adıyaman, Kahramanmaraş, Karaman, Aksaray ve Taşucu Dormitories work under Adana District Office.

District Office has a capacity of 21,012 with 9,214 girls, 11,798 boys. The capacity for 4,240 of this with 2,414 boys and 1,826 girls is in Adana and Osmaniye from which Çukurova University's students can benefit.

There are 128 foreign students in Adana Fevzi Çakmak Dormitory: 23 girls and 105 boys.

FOOD and NUTRITION

In all the blocks of Fevzi Çakmak Dormitory affiliated to YABM, there is a canteen, a main restaurant and a main cafeteria to meet the needs of students .

The needs of students from these restaurants and canteens are met cheaper than the others outside. According to the status of small companies, the cost of food is determined, in the beginning of each education year and in February, as %20 cheaper than the third class restaurants. The dinner help that is done to students since 1982 is increased to 12.000 TL by January 1996.

The poor students staying at dormitories are provided with free food .

Restaurants and canteens in the dormitories are hired and run by the third person owners. The control of them is done by the supervision commissions, the district office and dormitory manager. The supervision commisions are founded by the district office and the governorship.

COMMUNICATION

After the meeting done with Adana Metropolis Municipality, it is agreed on a useful solution for the transportation matters of the students at Fevzi Çakmak Dormitory. On the other hand, the students at Haci Sabanci Girls Dormitory in the city center go to university by public transportation vehicles.

RELAXING, ENJOYMENT AND BATHING

The needs of students are tried to be meet in each block of the dormitory by the television saloons, main cafeteria and resting places that are constituted in different places of the garden.

The students are taken to the plays at Adana State Theater by city buses under the control of responsible governers and taken back to the dormitory in the same way. Also, the students can participate in any art activity organized by Çukurova University. In addition to these, tours are organized to the cities in which the YABM dormitories are present.

There are Turkish baths in 5 blocks of Fevzi Çakmak Dormitory and showers in 2 of them that are prefabricated. Turkish baths have capacity of 80 people. In all the blocks, hot water is available only in mornings and evenings in weekdays. On the other hand, in weekends it is available during daytime.

There are laundries in each block for students to wash their clothes. It is also possible for them to make the laundrywomen wash.

HEALTH FACILITIES

There is an ambulance at Fevzi Çakmak Dormitory, that is ready to serve to both dormitories for 24 hours. In addition, a nurse as staff and two doctors who are commissioned by the governship are ready to do whatever is needed in emergencies between 08:00 and 23:00 o'clock. There are infirmaries in all blocks belonging to the female students. Besides, there is a main infirmary under doctor supervision, in administration building of Fevzi Çakmak Dormitory.

Cleaning work of the dormitories is done with the process of buying service. Bathrooms, toilets and washbasins are disinfected periodically. Struggling against the insects are done with the help of Adana Local Health Authority and with the corporation's own efforts. There is no concern on this matter.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

In order to spend leisure time of the students staying in the dormitories, folk dance, volleyball, basketball, football, table tennis and chess activities are performed. The teams formed according to the results of these activities, participate in competitions that are organized among the regions every year, in order to represent YABM.

The students at dormitories in Adana are given folk dance courses by teachers assigned by Directorate of Adana Province Culture. The students of YBAM participate in all of the football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, knowledge, chess and folklore competitions that Head Office organizes.

SPORT FACILITIES

As a result of coordination done with Adana Youth and Sport Province Presidency, the students staying at dormitories in Adana can benefit from the indoor sport saloon and swimming pools without charge. Football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis and chess matches are organized among the dormitory blocks and the dormitories affiliated to region. Besides, it is possible for students to participate in ski and sea sports cups that Head Office organizes.

At Fevzi Çakmak Dormitory, there are 1 lightened football and 3 basketball pitches. Also, the table tennis saloon that all the students can benefit from is in service. On the other hand, since the dormitory buildings in Osmaniye and Ceyhan are in the campus, the students can utilize from all the sport facilities of vocational schools.

IMPROVEMENT OF THE DORMITORIES

The offer to build at least two student blocks, one indoor sport saloon, one meeting saloon for multi purposes and one house with 40 flats is submitted to the Head Office for the new education year. On this matter, the views of Adana Governorship were taken and submitted as well. Construction of dormitory building in Ceyhan with a capacity of 500 people is going on and it is planned to be finished by the begining of 1997-1998 academic year.

In Adana city center and Osmaniye, new buildings to be hired as dormitories are on research. By the District Office, the efforts are continuing on the use of Adana Sümerbank District Office building as student dormitory.

All of the regional dormitories are painted and whitewashed by the staff every year. Maintenance and restitution are done in holidays.

LIBRARY FACILITIES

There is a library in each of Adana Fevzi Çakmak and Hacı Sabancı Dormitories. Libraries are sufficiently provided with the required books by Ministry and District Office. The students can borrow any book they want from the librarian or library official.

SAFETY AND SECURITY PRECAUTIONS

Entrance and exit are done from one gate under the control of dormitory personnel. Also, the identity cards of students and visitors are controlled.
